Creating an experience
The concept of creating an experiential environment in-store focuses on one key objective, to extend the experience of the brand beyond the customer’s time in the store. By doing so retailers are attempting to create an emotional connection between brand and customer, increasing the likelihood of the customer returning to their store, as well as prolonging dwell times within store.
Products which use light, sound and movement have been proven to disrupt consumers and snap them out of auto-pilot mode whilst shopping. These disruptions are known to have a long lasting impression on consumers, their perception of the brand, and their triggers to purchase.
Aura is the fantastic new range from Harrison products, offering an exciting and diverse range of light, sound and motion products.
To coincide with the launch of Aura, we will be posting a series of articles exploring the use of sensory products in retail.
Making the most of light
We begin with looking at how your brand can make the most of lighting options within instore displays.
A recent study by POPAI found that light is by far the most commonly used sensory element for POS displays. These findings are not surprising, LED’s are one of our most requested products, with their versatility, durability and fantastic visual results, LED’s are a hugely attractive option for visual merchandisers and retailers alike.
Single Flashing LED
Battery powered flashing LED’s offer a cost effective way of making your brand stand out. Small, bright and versatile, these lights are most frequently used in the headers of FSDU’s to create more engagement with the consumer and attract their attention. Due to their size and low weight, single flashing LED’s can also be utilised within shelf edge promotions. With sizes ranging from 3-10mm and a large selection of colours, flashing LED’s offer a fantastic alternative to traditional lighting. Whereas traditional lamps and bulbs often require power outlets and regular replacements, once installed our flashing LED’s will continuously flash for up to 3 months on a single battery. Installation couldn’t be easier, simply peel the 3M self-adhesive pad and back mount to your display. When your design is complete, detach the indicated tab to light up your display.
To have more control over your lighting display we recommend LED harnesses. Created through linking multiple single flashing LED’s, harnesses enable you to be more creative than simply using single flashing lights. We are able to offer this added control by bespoke programming and designing each harness for you. This allows us to work together to create your display to your exact specifications. Harnesses can be wired to include any amount of bulbs that you require, in any colour, and are completely programmable to any pattern. You can even adjust the vibrancy of the bulbs in order to create a number of immersive visual effects. Another advantage of creating an LED harness is that you can choose to use larger battery packs to last the duration of your promotional period, saving time and maintenance costs. It is also possible to add further additions to this type of product, such as motion sensors or light sensors, in order to create an even more impactful display.
For displays that stand out from the crowd, look no further than electroluminescent displays (EL displays). Intricately created to showcase your brand or product in a truly unique way, this bespoke signage option offers the perfect balance between versatility, durability and creativity. Used primarily as a way of promoting brands through eye catching posters that create animation through the use of light, they work best in areas that do not have a great deal of natural light. With the ability to program any sequence into its illumination, and colours to match your brand exactly, the EL display is a fantastic promotional tool guaranteed to engage customers. At just 3.5mm thick and no bulky power unit, these displays are suitable for indoor and outdoor use, and can be easily worked to a curved surface. From instore to shop windows, and even for use externally, EL displays offer stunning visuals and fantastic flexibility, ensuring the best possible promotion for your brand.
Ribbon lighting is most commonly used within permanent displays, specifically in up lighting, down lighting or highlighting products through various substrates from acrylic to Perspex. Beyond the retail environment ribbon lighting is used extensively within residential developments and most frequently in kitchens. Ribbon lighting can also be used within the temporary environment to highlight products or edge light displays. It is worth noting however, that when powered from a battery pack, they must also be linked to a motion sensor so as not to exhaust the battery pack within days. This product can be produced with varying strength SMDs (surface mounted diodes) and also in a range of colours, to match the needs of your display. They can be produced as a flexible product, with rigid aluminium strips on the back, or IP rated for use externally.
